So my summer reading quarter is now finished! My goal was to read 12 books and I surpassed that once again. My total was 17 books. Most of them were great, others not so great. I was hoping to finish my current book in time to add it to the list but alas, I’m not quite finished. So without further ado, here are the books that I read and completed.
So all summer I’ve really been into the neon colors from China Glaze (one of my fave nail polish brands). But at the moment I’m feeling much more subtle, plain, and elegant. So I’ve chosen a very very VERY light pink shade from Butter London. I love this nail polish but wish it was less expensive!! I don’t remember exactly how much it cost but I want to say it was around $14. Anyway, the shade is called Pink Ribbon.
My nails are pretty weak and love to peel so I’ve recently started using Essie Millionails and Essie Grow Stronger nail treatments to help. I started off with a coat of Millionails, followed by a coat of Grow Stronger. I did that yesterday to give it plenty of time to fully dry. I always have problems with nails smudging.
Then today I put on one coat of Butter Pink Ribbon. I let that set for a few hours while I watched a few episodes of the second season of Game of Thrones. Then I put on a second coat. I read for about 45 hoping the last coat would dry on it’s own, but no such luck. The nails were still tacky so I used China Glaze’s Fast Dry Top Coat to finish the process. That last one smells horrible but does the trick. I am now left with pretty pink, shiny nails.
So like I said in my last post, part of my clean house project would be to re-arrange my bookshelves. I went through all of my books, movies, and tv shows and picked out some to sell so I had some open space. I decided that I wanted to re-arrange some of the shelves so that certain things would be more accessible downstairs, such as video games and dvds. I decided that I wanted most if not all of our books to be upstairs because that’s where I usually read. So I took some before photos of all the shelves. Here they are…
So it took almost all night but I got it all done! There are even some free spaces left. So without further ado, here are the after photos…
And a few of the kitties, because they’re just so darn cute!
So last night after work I was looking around my house and all I could think was, “This place is a giant mess!” Our house is not very big so it doesn’t take much to make it look cluttered and messy. We have 3 storey townhome that is 1167 sq. feet. The first story is our garage and partial basement. Most of the basement is a big storage room with the utilities. We also have a small entryway from the garage where we keep our shoes, some storage and our cat litter boxes. The second story has a half bath, kitchen and living room. The living room also has the sliding glass door that leads out to the deck. The third story has two bedrooms (one of which I use as an office), bathroom and laundry closet. Both my husband and I have trouble getting rid of things so it’s hard to keep our house neat and tidy. I’ve tried doing this before but never got very far so I’m going to give it a try again. Each post I will post the before and after photos. For this post I will be starting with the bedroom. This room always tends to get messy quick. We keep up with the washing of laundry but not the folding and putting away. We come home and change into more comfortable clothes but sometimes forget to put them into the laundry hamper. So without further ado, here are the before photos…
So what I did first was to find all of the things in the room that don’t belong there. I put those away. That ended up clearing out quite a bit of the clutter. I rearranged a few of my shelves where I keep my lotions and body sprays (the small white shelf next to the tv and large bookshelf). I tidied up my husband’s dresser top. He had many things there that were unnecessary. I dusted everything and vacuumed twice. With two cats the amount of cat hair adds up fast! There are still a few things I am going to do eventually but this round was just a major cleanup. Next I would like to take everything off of the large bookshelf and switch them with things from other bookshelves around the house. But that will end up being a post all on it’s own… We have a lot of bookshelves. I’ve also been debating packing away some of our knick-knacky type things since all they do is collect dust. I am very happy with the end result of this cleaning spree. Here are the after photos…
So one of my good friends is getting married next month and her bridal shower and bachelorette party were this past Saturday. I had never been to a bridal shower so I was a little unsure about the whole bridal shower gift versus the wedding gift. I did some research and found that they are supposed to be 2 different gifts so I started to think about what to get her for the bridal shower. I wanted to do something a little more than just getting something off of her registry (which is what the wedding present will be haha). She pins recipes on Pinterest like crazy but she just looks at them on her phone. I figure that if she had printouts of those recipes it would be less hassle and less chance her phone would get dirty. So I went through all of her recipes on Pinterest and picked out a bunch to fill 5 categories: Main dishes, sides, pastas, breakfast and drinks (both alcoholic and non). I typed up all of the recipes in a font I know she likes and printed photos of at least the finished product. Some of the recipes had photos of the whole process so I used some of those sometimes. I got a cute sticker from Michael’s to put on the front cover. (I have also made a binder similar with the same stickers for my own recipe binder). Once I had all of the recipes and photos I started to put them into clear sheet protectors so if they got dirty she could just wipe off the protector and it wouldn’t affect the paper.
I also wanted to get her a couple of the kitchen utensils that were on her registry for a little something extra. Then I wrapped the binder up in brown paper wrapping paper from Target and tied these cute ribbons I got from Michael’s around the binder and tied the utensils into the bows.
I finished the binder before I thought about posting about this so I don’t have photos of the items I used. I only have photos of the finished products.
– Pink Avery durable binder (Target)
– JoLee’s Boutique stickers (Michael’s)
– Pink, blue, purple and green gingham pattern scrapbook paper (Michael’s)
– Avery sheet protectors (Already had these but you can get at Target or Walmart)
– Rubber cement (Already had this but you can get at Target or Walmart)
– Scotch photo squares (Already had this but you can get at Target)
– Scrapbook letters (already had these, they were from Michael’s I believe)
– Brown paper wrapping paper (Target)
– Cute wedding ribbons (Michael’s)
This was the first gift that she opened. Everyone loved it! I even had a few requests from some of the girls to make one for them! I must admit I myself am a little jealous haha. I have a recipe binder that I made that is similar to this one but nowhere near as neat and cool looking. Everyone loved the way it looked, loved the recipes and how it was more personal than just a registry item.
Any questions just ask!
Oh, I should add that I made sure to include credit for all of the recipes and photos from the website/blog the recipes came from!
So it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything new. My life has been kind of crazy lately.
One thing that I’ve been working on is continuing to organize our home and de-clutter it. It’s been a struggle but it’s finally coming along. Last weekend we contributed items to my parent’s garage sale. We didn’t sell everything but enough to get rid of a bunch of clutter. The rest we plan to try selling somewhere else or donating.
I also just finished taking an accounting course online through a local technical college. That was interesting. I probably won’t be taking anymore classes.
Our adorable (and irritating) cats have been making things interesting at home. They have one of those water dishes that is like a mini water cooler. Enzo has taken to flipping the whole thing over. We have come home to the floor being wet many times. I love them anyways.
We are both now concentrating on budgeting our money better. I hit a point that I like to call my rock bottom. I’ll post updates on that later and how I am budgeting my money.
