2013 Book Challenge

Hello everyone!  It’s been awhile!  I hope your 2013 was as great as mine!  Today I am looking back at all of the books I read throughout the year.  I use Goodreads to keep track of the books I read, as well as find new books.  One thing I love about Goodreads is that they have a yearly reading challenge.  Basically at the beginning of the year you set a goal for how many books you would like to read over the next year.  You can also view your friends’ challenges, if they have one, and what books they have been reading.  If you love reading and have never heard of Goodreads, you should check it out!

So, my 2013 reading challenge for myself was to read 48 books.  As some of you may already know I like to keep a separate log in a notebook of all my books and give myself goals for every 3 months (which I call quarters).  For all 4 quarters, my goal was to read 12 books each, giving me my yearly goal of 48 books.  I am pleased to announce that I surpassed my goal by 11 books and read a total of 59 books!  Granted, there are a few that were incredibly short and don’t exactly count as one whole book but oh well.

I read a lot of great books, and some not so great.  I ended a few of my favorite series and it makes me sad there won’t be more.  I discovered a few new authors I would like to continue to read.  But without further ado, here are the books that comprised my year of reading in 2013!

ImageImageImage  If I could I would try to review each book, but that would take a long time.  I ended the Wheel of Time series, which is a really great fantasy series written by Robert Jordan (the last few finished by Brandon Sanderson after Jordan died).  I had been reading that series for about 10 years.  I was sad the series was over but excited that I was finally able to complete it.  I also ended the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, which I also really loved.  I was not pleased with how the series ended (and I don’t want to give anything away for those of you reading the series that hasn’t finished yet).

The new author I discovered was Amy A. Bartol.  I discovered her first book, Inescapable, as a Kindle Daily Deal.  The synopsis sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try.  The writing wasn’t always the greatest but I couldn’t get enough of the storyline!  Luckily for me there were 3 books after that in the same series and she is currently working on the 5th!  I can’t wait!  One of the books I’m reading now is another book that she wrote about a completely different world of characters.

So that was my year of reading for 2013.  Stick around to see what I’ll be reading in 2014!  I set a new goal for myself on Goodreads.  60 books!
